SEYVUM Upgraded 6-inch Mini Chainsaw

There are a lot of 6-inch mini chainsaws on the market that attach “upgraded” to their marketing blurb. However, its not always clear what the upgrade is.

Or indeed if there has been any upgrade!

On the other hand, if they have genuinely upgraded the tool then that is great because that means they:

  • Have sold enough of them to realize where the shortcomings are.
  • Are likely in the market for the long run.
  • Care about the quality and efficacy of their product.

What upgrades?

The most common chainsaw upgrades seem to be in terms of safety. This is obviously not a bad thing and is probably in response to the ever increasing popularity of mini chainsaws. And especially 6 inch mini chainsaws which far out number both 4-inch bar and 8-inch bar mini saws in the market.

So you will see a lot of upgrades featuring the addition of:

    • A safety switch to prevent accidental starting of the tool. This is usually in the form of a button that you have to depress while at the same time pulling the trigger. Great for safety but unfortunately not usually well placed if you are left handed. (See here for mini chainsaws for lefties)
    • An anti splash baffle. This covers most of the top part of the chain and limits the amount of wood chips or sawdust that might fly up from the saw into your face. Certainly useful but by no means 100% effective so probably best to invest in some safety goggles or face shield to improve that aspect of your safety.

And then you will get the PACKAGE UPGRADES.

This is where the upgrades have nothing to do with the actual mini chainsaw but with what gets sold along with it.

So you might get an extra battery or chains, an upgraded charger, some gloves, a carry case etc etc.

This might, or might not, add value to what you are looking to do with the mini chainsaw. You will have to decide that.

However, do remember that the mini chainsaw is your primary purchase. So concentrate on what the tool offers you. The rest are nice to have and could swing your vote if that is the only significant difference between the mini saws you are considering.

A Significant Upgrade!

upgraded 6 inch mini chainsaws When you upgrade the electrical motor that drives the tool, then that must rate as a significant upgrade.

And if you upgrade from a normal electrical motor to a brushless electrical motor then the performance and longevity of your mini chainsaw is going to go through the roof.

In fact, that applies if the mini saw already has a brushless motor and it is upgraded!

Given the above, the ZNP 6-inch mini chainsaw pictured here has undergone a significant upgrade in the electrical motor department.

That’s good news. However, in comparison with some of its competitors with brushless motors, it doesn’t have an automatic oiler or safety splash baffle.

This means you will need to oil the chain manually as you go and probably invest in some protective eye wear as well.

The price reflects the difference in features and the fact that you are going to have to buy a few extras to become fully and safely operational.

As we always point out:

  • A brushless motor is always worth having and
  • Generally, you get what you pay for (quality & features)

So while upgrades are important and worth considering (see more of them here), its probably worth looking at top rated mini chainsaws for the features and performance you require.
